I have a passion for historic buildings. The New World does suffer a shortage of ancient and older buildings as compared to the Old World of Eurasia. We have no medieval castles or gothic cathedrals. We have no renaissance frescoes or emperor’s palaces. We have no ancient Buddhist temples or pyramids. What we do have are archaeological sites dating back thousands of years, remnants and reproductions of buildings and ships significant to the European settlement of the Americas, as well as other architecturally or historically significant buildings from the last two centuries. In California, the oldest buildings are the Missions built by the Spanish starting in 1769. This page is for historic sites and buildings in my native state of California. Return to the main Photography Gallery page for links to other states where you will find photos of a reproduction of Jamestown Settlement, ghost towns in New Mexico, the World Trade Center, and buildings and monuments in Washington, D.C. and Virginia. I have not yet scanned slides of Independence Hall and New York City, so watch for them. In the coming months and years, I intend to add more slides from my vast collection as well as new slides from future visits or revisits to historical sites. I am considering getting a digital camera which would save money on film processing as well as eliminating scanning time. If there is anything that you absolutely must see, e-mail me, maybe I already have it or if it’s close by, I can get it. Some of these historic sites are also museums and I will soon add more museums, even if some are newer construction. |
