Personal Observations

La Purisima is probably my favorite mission. It is beautifully restored and sits on a large site. There are large animal enclosures and fields in a small valley. The chapel is no longer used, but many of the work areas are restored.

Address and Directions

2295 Purisima Road
Lompoc, CA 93436

From Highway 101, exit at State Highway 246 west at Buellton. (My recommendation is stop at Andersens for something to eat.) (Mission Santa Ines is only about five miles east of Buellton on the same highway 246.) After about 14 miles, right onto Purisima Road for about a mile. The mission is on the right.

Daily 9-5.

La Purisima Concepcion This mission is unusual in that after the original 1787 mission was destroyed by an earthquakein 1812, a new mission was founded on a new site in 1813. Originally built in what is now the City of Lompoc, it is now across the river and about four miles east of town. 4-4-92.
